Dear Friends and Supporters, December 12, 2023

A heartfelt thank you to each of you who have already donated this year. Your contributions are the backbone of our movement. Yet, we can’t take our momentum for granted – we need more community partners to continue our work. We appeal to you for your support. By donating today, you’re not just giving a contribution; you’re safeguarding our future.

As in the past the AMPHRC produced numerous historical publications and the documentary “Lethal Nationalism: Genocide of the Greeks 1913-1923” thanks to your donations and your commitment to disseminate the history and destruction of Hellenism in Asia Minor and Pontos to the English-speaking world.

During the last two years we have been working specially on the following important projects:

“The Exodus: Genocide Survivors Testimonials.” Selection of 225 testimonies out of 1,000 testimonials from the five volumes EXODUS (Η ΕΞΟΔΟΣ), which was originally published in Greek by the Center for Asia Minor Studies in Athens in 1980. These survivor testimonies capture the harrowing first-hand accounts and heartwrenching recollections of being forcibly removed from their ancestral homelands of Asia Minor, Pontos and Eastern Thrace.

“Ottoman and Turkish Archives on the Pontian Greeks.” Historian Taner Akcam is leading this project along with a Turkish scholar in Turkey that is doing the research in various Ottoman-Turkish Archives locations. The work of identifying the documents requires extensive research and selection and so far over 1,000 documents have been selected starting the transcription process.

“Greeks in the Ottoman Empire: Genocide, Survival, and Aftermath.”
Collection of original research papers is the latest in a series of activities that are part of a long-term project of the Asia Minor and Pontos Hellenic Research Center (AMPHRC) to promote the study of the larger pattern of genocide in the late Ottoman Empire and early Turkish Republic.

We have just a few weeks remaining until the new year. I must ask you for your support. With your help, I know that AMPHRC can continue to make meaningful progress towards bringing light to the horrific period of cruelty that was inflicted on our communities and our planet that should not be forgotten for generations to come.
